A George IV mahogany chest of drawers, probably Scottish, circa 1825, of bow-front outline, with arrangement of two short and three long drawers each with shell pattern handles, and flanked by reeded pilasters, 106cm high, 121cm wide, 61cm deepProvenance: By direct descent from Lady Enid Doreen Scudamore-Stanhope Browne (1899-1985), daughter of The Hon. Evelyn Theodore Scudamore-Stanhope and Julia Dasha Potter. Lady Enid was granddaughter of Henry Edwyn Chandos Scudamore-Stanhope, 9th Earl of Chesterfield and sister to Edward Henry Scudamore-Stanhope, the 12th and last Earl of Chesterfield, born on 9 February 1889. In December 1926 she married, Major Alexander Browne of Callaly Castle, Northumberland. The family homes included Beningbrough Hall, York and Holme Lacy, Herefordshire.Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use,Handles are all original, they are secured via three screws to the drawer fronts, there are no obvious signs of these being changed. These have been gilt previously, largely this has rubbed off but remains in places, there is one ring-pull missing to one handle. the drawers are all open and unlocked at time of report, there are no keys present.Some old chips and losses, also old losses to some veneers and cock beadingThe top with an old dark ring mark to the centre of the top as well as scuffs, scratches, and indentations Condition Report Disclaimer
