A George IV mahogany extending dining table

[ translate ]

A George IV mahogany extending dining table, circa 1825, in the manner of Gillows, with three additional leaf insertions, 73cm high, 237cm long (fully extended), 121cm wide

Condition Report:
Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, Some chips and losses, the legs with indentations and scuffs from age and use, some old chips and losses, mainly to where where the leaves meet but also to the extremities The frieze is complete when closed, when the table is extended the frieze goes only half way, this is common in this type of table, The action running at time of report, it takes two people to do it comfortably. Please see additional image for visual reference to condition Additional measurements: Unusually, the two ends are not of equal length, one is 58.5cm long, the other is 63cm long giving an unextended length of 121cm. the match of the 'flame' in the mahogany is good so it is possible this is how it was made, there are no obvious signs of the smaller end being cut down. There are three additional leaves, one long one 56cm long, and two shorter each 30.5cm long, There is colour variation overall to the leaves due to varying degrees of use. there are 4 clips to go with the leaves, ideally this would have 6 to hold at its most secure, these could probably be sourced by the buyer if desired.
