A George IV sterling silver bachelor teapot, marked for London 1825 by Jonathon Hayne to base of baluster form upon a spreading foot, the curved spout with chased decoration of shells and rocaille, opposite a scroll handle with acanthus thumb piece and flat-chased flower heads, fitted with ivory insulators. The hinged lid surmounted by a later detachable figurative finial in the form of a 'china man'. The body with embossed decoration of C scrolls and flowers heads with engraved lattice work reserves. One side with a vacant cartouche, the obverse with an engraved crest of a hawk wings expanded with a ear of wheat in the mouth. Fully marked underneath, the finial with part marks for William Hewitt with Victorian duty mark, the retaining nut with lion passant only. The handle unmarked and the lid with unclear mark struck twice, possibly AK.
