A Georgian Silver Coffee Pot

[ translate ]

A Georgian Silver Coffee Pot

London, 18th Century

with spurious Hester Bateman marks.
14 ozt 12 dwt
Height 6 x width 11 3/4 inches.

Property from the Estate of Professor Ethan D. Alyea, Jr., Bloomington, Indiana European Furniture & Decorative Arts
The teapot is definitely sterling silver and 18th century or circa 1800, based on its decoration, form and handle. The marks are obviously fake 20th century additions and probably the entire bottom of the teapot has been replaced. There is an old mark at the center of the bottom which has been erased. The body with moderate surface wear and a few dents as well as polish residue and some scratches. A monogram to one side of the body.
