A German chiselled deluxe flintlock rifle, dated 1680
Octagonal barrel slightly indented in the middle, with eight-groove rifled bore in 15 mm calibre. Muzzle engraved with tendril decoration, dovetailed brass front sight, iron folding rear sight. The breech struck with master’s mark "VB" (Stöckel, no. 4628) and date "1680". The base of the barrel cut with three-dimensional tendril decoration. Lock with decoration engraved and cut in high relief, monogram "HOF" underneath the cock spring. Action with cut main spring and engraved tumbler. Set trigger. Walnut full stock decorated with finely carved tendrils. Patch box with sliding lid. Finely cut iron furniture with grotesque heads amidst tendrils. Original wooden ramrod tipped with an iron band. Old brass collector’s plaque fastened with nails to the bottom of the butt. Length 139 cm.
