A German iron horse muzzle, dated 1562The muzzle delicately worked in blackened wrought iron. The semi-circular body composed of finely wrought bars with riveted joins, interspersed with engraved appliqués in fine openworked sheet iron. Dated "1562" on the top. The movable iron eyelets for the bridle still attached. Dimensions approx. 22 x 19 x 20 cm.Similar muzzles can be found in numerous public collections, such as a piece from Augsburg, dated 1572, in the collection of the Royal Armouries (VI.199).Condition: II -
