A German wheel-lock rifle, circa 1700
Octagonal, slightly conically tapered barrel rifled with twelve grooves in 12 mm calibre. Brass and iron dovetail sights. Lock with internal wheel and spring-loaded pan cover. Finely decorated lockplate and hammer portraying Nereids and a lion between scrolling leaves. Signature “Caspar Keilholz” with rich inlays of engraved and blackened bone, the front ramrod ferrule replaced. Butt cap of light-coloured horn, the patchbox with spring-loaded sliding cover. Ramrod missing. Length 114 cm.Condition: II
