A Group of Forged Steel Tool Heads and a Handled Half Hatchet
This lot features a collection of vintage manual tools constructed of forged steel. The group includes two ball-peen hammer heads and one handled half-hatchet. The hatchet features a steel head with a wide cutting blade on one side and a textured hammer poll on the opposite side. It is fitted to a wooden handle that retains a partially intact, blue rectangular adhesive paper label on the grip; the text on the label is largely obscured by surface residue and fiber, rendering it illegible. The two ball-peen hammer heads are individual components without handles. One hammer head features a circular central body and is stamped with characters on the side. The characters appear to read UNION H followed by further illegible letters. The second hammer head also shows faint, illegible stamped characters on its central section. Both hammer heads show typical signs of industrial use and age-related oxidation. The hatchet head measures approximately 6 inches in length (photo 7). The overall length of the hatchet including the handle is approximately 12.5 inches (photo 8).
