A Group of Late 19th Century Floral Transferware Tea and Coffee Service Components.

A collection of ceramic tea and coffee service components, likely earthenware, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The set features a transfer-printed floral design consisting of central medallions containing pink roses, framed by blue ribbons and laurel swags. The pieces are finished with a yellow-ground border featuring black-line geometric detailing and gilt accents to the handles and rims. The lot comprises:

A compressed globular teapot with a domed lid and finial, featuring extensive surface crazing and gilt wear. The interior shows tea staining and the underside of the foot rim is unglazed and unmarked.

A circular teapot stand or trivet decorated with a central floral spray matching the service, with a yellow and gilt-lined border.

A tapering cylindrical hot water or coffee jug featuring a unique hinged metal lid, possibly pewter. The lid is fitted into notches at the flared rim and features a white ceramic or glass thumbpiece.

A two-handled open sugar bowl of squat form with matching floral transfer decoration and gilt-lined handles.

A small cream jug with a single loop handle, matching the decoration of the service.

The bases of the pieces show no visible factory marks or signatures. The unglazed foot rims show minor firing marks and surface dirt.

More Information

The service components show significant signs of age and use. Extensive crazing is visible across all ceramic surfaces, particularly prominent on the jug (photo 7) and the teapot body (photo 4). There is significant gilt loss and wear to the rims and handles of all items (photo 1 and 8). The teapot lid has small chips to the interior rim (photo 3) and there is a small chip to the top rim of the teapot body (photo 4). The jug has a surface scratch through the transfer decoration on one side (photo 7). The interior of the teapot shows significant staining (photo 4).
