A Group of Six Islamic Brass Tone Metal 'Glass Eye Bead' Rings, 95CB
This skilfully assembled group of six rings is made of brass tone metal, each set with colourful millefiori style glass eye bead tablets in square, oval and hexagonal forms, with granulated, chased and incised decorative work on the band and shoulders. The eye bead motif carries protective meaning within Islamic tradition, serving as a talisman against the evil eye and for spiritual safeguarding of the wearer. The glass tablets display a dark base ground patterned with multicoloured concentric target dots and scattered bright spots in red, white, blue, green and yellow, with subtle surface wear and age related patina visible on both the glass and the metal. The metal bands show hand worked granulation and floral scroll ornamentation with a worn patinated finish, and each glass bead is held in a raised bezel mount framed by twisted wire or beaded borders.
