rectangular with cut corners, the lid centred with an elegant butterfly of banded agate within gold cagework mounts, framed by a chased leafy gold border with turquoise enamel beads, the semi-translucent agate panels on the sides with dividers of chased acanthus leaves and further beads on a sablé ground, maker’s mark, charge, discharge and countermark of Henri Clavel, Paris date letter T for 1782, the rim numbered: 223

Condition Report:
In overall good condition. A small crack on the upper right wing. Two small turquoise enamelled beads missing on the vertical mounts, another, leaf-shaped, also missing, 2 small on the horizontal mounts slightly worn on the front cover rim. One bead possibly restored.
Marks: fully marked on upper body rim and inside body rim, discharge outside body rim.
