A 'HISTORISMUS' HARDSTONE MUSICAL BOX WITH TIMEPIECE, JEWELLED GOLD, SILVER AND ENAMEL MOUNTS, LATE 19TH CENTURY

in Augsburg taste, upright form, the gold cagework mounts engraved with scrollwork and enclosing panels of lapis lazuli, surmounted by and openwork scrolled embellishment enamelled in bright colours and applied with pastes and pearls, the doors opening to reveal organ pipes and the scarlet translucent enamel dial on a pierced scrolled ground, the interior of the doors painted in crimson monochrome with scenes from the life of Abraham, the lid opening to reveal an interior fitted with scissors, a tortoiseshell comb, a folding knife, a spoon, ivory writing slips and a small noose, the base concealing the musical movement with key compartment opening under the simulated keyboard, the base struck apparently 72050G in an oblong, with two keys and plush case stamped for: Wartski, 138 Regent Street / London & Llanduddno (4)

Condition Report:
Please note that this lot contains ivory and tortoiseshell in the (removable) implements. Several cracks and minute losses to the lapis throughout, the comb with severe loss to tortoiseshell; both the musical movement and the watch movement currently working, but Sotheby's does not guarantee the functioning of movements; would benedit from professional cleaning
