A JAPANESE EXPORT BRASS-MOUNTED LACQUER CHEST, EARLY 18TH CENTURY

with engraved brass mounts and a nashiji gold-ground interior, distressed
37cm. high, 62cm. wide, 49cm. deep; 1ft. 2½in., 2ft. ½in., 1ft. 5½in.

Condition Report:
This piece was found in a cellar at Spetchley and this long-term method of storage translates into current condition. It is very distressed. There are losses to lacquer throughout. Age cracks to the top. The metal mounts are tarnished and have signs of verdigris. The lacquer is dirty and discoloured in places. There is evidence of old worm. In need of conservation.
