signed J Bizot A Paris, 1708, the octagonal dial with three chapter rings, inset compass rose, gilt hinged gnomon with unusual lion's head support adjustable for latitudes 40-50-60 degrees, the reverse with list of French towns and their latitudes for Paris, Troyes, Dijon, Lion, Chalon Sur Saone and Chastillon Sur Seine, in original fitted red morocco case, velvet-lined,
the dial 2/3in x 2in x 1 2/3in (1 1/2cm x 5 1/2cm x 4 1/3cm), the case 2/3in x 2 1/2in x 2in (1 1/2cm x 6 1/2cm x 5 1/3cm)
Bizot was counsellor to the Presidial of Besançon
