A KARACHOPT KAZAK RUG, WEST CAUCASUS

second half 19th century

approximately 224 by 157cm; 7ft. 4in., 5ft. 2in.

Condition Report:
(Rug is illustrated in opposite way to weaving in printed catalogue and weaving direction online. Condition report refers to online image). Rich intense colour, generally good condition with pile approximately 4-5mm in the main, browns oxidised, localised very light wear. Minor spot repiling in the the lavender brown in the upper and lower panels with the yellow 'flame' motifs and some minute spot repiling elsewhere. Flatweave at upper end is partly restored (new white warps insterted) and lower end has been rewoven from the inner edge of the outermost plain blue guard surround. Nice checkered tulips in the border. Very good condition for age.
