A KARACHOPT KAZAK RUG, WEST CAUCASUS

circa 1880

approximately 234 by 166cm; 7ft. 8in., 5ft. 5in.

Condition Report:
(Rug is woven in opposite orientation to illustration in catalogue and is correct online. Condition report refers to online orientation). Pile is generally good to fair, approx. 2mm, knot bars visible in white corner boxes (and some minor repiling to whites in the bottom two boxes), (white in central medallion and borders is very good); the browns, and yellow of upper octagon of central medallion also with knot bars visible. Bottom left red rectangle with some repiling (visible as a slightly brighter red). Original banded coloured side cords. Flatweave neatened at each end and warps teased out, ends overlocked. Lovely abrashed green ground.
