A KAZAK RUG, WEST CAUCASUS

mid 19th century

approximately 223 by 126cm; 7ft. 4in., 4ft. 2in.

Condition Report:
Orientation of weaving as illustrated in catalogue. Pile overall varies from approx 4mm in the blues and greens and in the borders, to knotbars in the red in the main field, with gentle oxidisation to browns. Coloured banded overcasting and flatweave are original. Ends overlocked. Very pretty, attractive subtle colouring. An attractive piece. Very unusual to see all the little birds in the border and the variety of motifs decorating the guard stripes.
