A KNEEILING BRONZE SCULPTURE CHINA LIAO DYNASTY
Dimensions: Height 11 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 5 cm
Weight: 213 grams
A small cast-bronze figure of a kneeling or crouching attendant, raised on a compact ornamental pedestal. The slender body turns slightly, with one arm lifted towards the upper torso and the other set nearer the waist. A high, carefully worked hairstyle or headdress frames the face, while incised details suggest garments and jewellery. The figure is posed above a shallow, petal-like base with curling projecting elements that enliven its otherwise vertical silhouette. Dark greenish-brown patination covers the surface, with lighter passages on the face and limbs where the metal has been worn. The kneeling pose lends the small bronze figure a vivid sense of devotion and movement.
