A KUTAHYA-STYLE LIDDED POTTERY INKWELL
Possibly France, late 19th century
Of cubical shape, resting on four squared moulded feet, the lid attached to the body with a gilt copper mount, the white body painted in orange red, cobalt blue, green and yellow within black lines, the decoration inspired by Kutahya ceramics and consisting of drop-shaped vegetal medallions filled with floral sprays, embellished with coloured vegetal branches and flowers, the corners decorated with stylised cypress trees with red dots to the edges, the interior in a shade of purple, likely caused by the direct contact with the ink, the base with a stylised Arabic letter 'S', possibly a mark for Samson ware, 6cm x 7.5cm x 7.5cm.
