A Karatsu summer chawan. Momoyama/early Edo period
Of wide conical shape with thin parallel grooves filled with engobe to the inside, the body covered by an ash grey finely crackled glaze, with seven ground down spur marks to the well, remais of red pigment at the base,with fine gold lacquer repairs (kintsugi) and silver lacquer restorations to the rim, decorated in hiramakie with design of waves and cherry blossoms, gaze minor flaking inside. Modern wooden box.
