modelled with eight rounded sides raised on a short spreading foot, the cover crispy carved through deep layers of lacquer with a stylised chrysanthemum bloom framed by ruyi pendants to the centre, encircled by bajixiang ('Eight Buddhist Emblems') evenly scattered amidst various leafy floral sprays, reserved against a green and yellow lacquer diaper ground, encircled by ruyi pendant and keyfret borders, decorated to each side with a panel of basketry amongst lotuses borne on meandering leaves, the box similarly decorated, the interiors and base lacquered black

Condition Report:
There are some losses to the basketry panels. Two panels of the cover and the corresponding black lacquer areas of the interior have been restored. Some cracks and retouching are visible in the interiors, including to one lobed of the box. There are some general refreshing to the red lacquer at the edges, including to the some borders of the panels and rim of the box. The cover is slightly warped.
