Kashan, Iran, late 12th - early 13th century
Of faceted cylindrical shape, on a circular slightly splayed foot, rising to a short tubular neck, with a beak-shaped spout and curved handle on the side, the eight-sided faceted body and flat shoulders reminiscent of contemporary metal examples, the copper-lustre decoration in Kashan monumental style and consisting of eight figures bent on their knees, framed within two panels of scrolling vegetal tendrils at the bottom and top, more abstract designs on the shoulders and neck, pseudo-calligraphy on the handle, 31cm high.
Provenance: Stephen Keynes (1927 – 2017), acquired at Spink & Son and other London dealers in the 1960's.
