A LARGE CRACKLE-GLAZED ORMOLU-MOUNTED BOWL
The porcelain Chinese, 18th century, the mounts French, 18th/19th century
The large deep bowl, entirely covered inside and out with a minutely-crackled greyish glaze simulating Song dynasty Geyao, the gilt-bronze mounts cast with coiling branches around the upper rim and standing on six rococo scroll feet.
28cm (11in) wide.
十八/十九世紀 仿哥釉碗(鑲十八/十九世紀法國鎏金銅飾)

Provenance: Kauffmann collection (according to the collector's index card)
Hans (1888-1966) and Ludmilla Arnhold (1894-1976) acquired in Europe
A European private collection

The glaze of this rare bowl is based on Song dynasty crackle-glazed wares, referred to as Ge, which were greatly admired by the emperors of the Qing dynasty.

Compare with a pair of related but much smaller Louis XV Chinese crackle-glazed Ormolu-mounted bowls, the mounts circa 1745, the porcelain 17th/early 18th century, which was sold at Christie's New York, 14 October 2020, lot 49.
