[ translate ]

A GEORGE II NEEDLEWORK PANELMID 18TH CENTURYPossibly previously a seat cover or fire screen, worked in wool and silk, in petit-point, with a ribbon tied bouquet on an umber ground, in a carved and giltwood frame82 x 66cm overallCondition Report: The frame has a crackelure overall with some flaking, and lacking some sections of gesso. The woolwork is of arched form originally. The edges have some holes from previous (upholstery?) fixings, and the edges show in places a border of the frayed linen ground. There are bare outlines to the scrolled border suggesting that either this was originally left bare or that the thread has fragmented, possibly silk. There are various holes from either moth or wear. The brown ground a little thin possibly from rust. Some areas of later stitching. All that said many of these comments on condition are only apparent on close inspection. Please see the additional photographs for a visual reference of condition.Condition Report Disclaimer
