A LARGE IMARI PORCELAIN BALUSTER VASE AND COVER
Japan, Edo period (1615-1868)
The cover surmounted by a karashishi [lion dog] on a rockwork base, painted and enriched overall in underglaze blue and overglaze iron-red, gold and black with floral panels, the body with two large reserves containing chrysanthemums in bloom and cranes in flight respectively.
HEIGHT 60 cm
Condition: The cover and finial with repairs, the vase with an internal hairline as well as a chip to rim.
Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by a third-generation member of the Holzapfel family after 1995 and has remained in the family ever since.
