A LARGE IMARI PORCELAIN CHARGER WITH SHIBA ONKO AND CRANES
Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
Painted in underglaze blue and polychrome enamels and gilt with several reserves enclosing diaper pattern designs and scrolling foliage, the two larger reserves depicting a crowd of cranes (right) and Shiba Onko (left), the boy hero standing beside a huge, cracked water jar and helping his companion out. The backside with ornamental designs and with a metal mounting for suspension to a wall.
DIAMETER 56.5 cm
Condition: Very good condtion with some wear to enamels and firing irregularities.
