A LARGE RUSSIAN PAN-SLAVIC STYLE CARVED OAK ARMCHAIR, 19TH C.

A Trompe L'Oeil chair Russian, early 20th century after a design by Vasili Petrovich Shutov. The chair's backrest is inscribed in old Slavic with a famous Russian proverb which translates as "The slower you go, the further you get". The form is derived from 17th-century Russian folk furniture and was originally produced by Shutov in 1870 for the All-Russian Manufacturing Exhibition, held in St Petersburg.

Dimensions: H: 40 1/4 in., (102.5 cm.)

Conditions: Very good. Wear as expected with age and use. Signs of restoration.
