A LARGE VICTORIAN SILVER TANKARD MARK OF JOHN ALDWINCKLE & JAMES SLATER, LONDON, 1880
The cylindrical body chased with strapwork and bosses enclosing panels decorated with male term figures surrounded by scrolling grapevines and pendant grape bunches. The loop handle applied with a bearded mask to the top and lower terminal. Raised on the backs of three fully-modeled lions, their front paws resting on balls. The conforming hinged low dome cover with a similar lion finial. Marked on body to right of handle, underside of cover and finial, the underside engraved GILLIAM / SEARLE ST / LONDON
