A Silver Repoussé Palaska Gunpowder Cartridge Military Case With Birds And Cornucopias, Greece or Balkans, Western Ottoman Provinces, late 18th - 19th century Of rounded rectangular shape, with a convex hinged lid at the top surmounted by an openwork plaque with a pair of birds and vegetal trellis, and cusped bottom, the front, sides, and lid profusely chased in high relief with panels of motifs typically featured in Ottoman silver creations of the period, including birds, rosettes, dense foliage, domes surmounted by crescent moons, curved cornucopias (Horn of Plenty), and vegetal scrolls, all framed within beaded and braided fretwork bands, the back with a plain rectangular belt loop, the edges of the back engraved with a vegetal motif. 15cm x 10.5cm, 373GR.Click here to share:
