(A) LOT OF 2: KUCHENREITER PERCUSSION AND J. PENEL HALF

Lot consists of (A) Kuchenreiter is recorded as working between 1670 and 1743. Diminutive post front sight on flattened rib signed in silver "I C KUCHENREITER" with florals over breech, diminutive notch rear sight. Ramrod, possibly the original, retained by two brass ferrules. Decorated with relief carving around the mouth of florals. Converted lock, originally flint, with pan trimmed and decorated in line pattern. Hammer a more modern replacement that does not sit correctly on nipple. Sidepanel with flowing lines. Brass trigger guard with relief florals in wood around finial. Tang with relief floral engraving. Brass thumbpiece with initials "v M", meaning unknown. Tapered flared butt with brass cap. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel mixing heavily with brown patina and a few flashes of blue. Lock and hammer essentially dove grey. Wood is very good with some bumps and bruises throughout, with an extra layer of varnish added at one time. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand with exception given to hammer being off angle, bore is very good with some oxidation throughout. (B) J. Penel signed French half stock turnbarrel pistol. Barrel turns at halfway point with front half of bore rifled. Four stage barrel with octagonal section to three rounded areas of differing sizes with wedding rings at girdles. Flint lock with simple filed swan neck cock and faceted pan. Sidepanel, one screw replaced, simply decorated with line engraving. Stock with relief carving at tang and flared butt. CONDITION: Barrel a pleasing patina mixing with a few flashes of gunmetal grey. Lock with an old application of bluing that has softened legends. Lock kicked at one point, with an extensive repair running from lock to tip of forearm. Wood with a thick reapplied layer of varnish that has softened carving, one area of spliced wood at butt. Action needs attention and will not hold on full cock, bore is very good with strong rifling and some oxidation throughout.
