[ translate ]

A LOUIS XV STYLE ORMOLU MOUNTED AND MARBLE TOPPED TULIPWOOD WITH VARIOUS WOODS MARQUETRY COMMODE, BY J SARGUES, 20TH CENTURY, the serpentine rectangular Fleur de Pêcher marble top above bombé sides and front inlaid sans traverse with a blossoming cluster issuing swirling floral leafy stems in exotic and dyed woods, centering foliage and "C" scrolled rocaille bronze escutcheons flanked by nicely cast acanthus leaf and wilting flower stemmed handles, mounted on a shaped rectangular tulipwood inlaid panel enclosed by undulating acanthine modeled encadrements, topped by an asymmetrical stylized shell cartouche and ending as a reticulated pendant of sinuous curling rocaille detailed scrolls entwined with leafy vines set within kingwood crossbanding, flanked by conforming legs with pierced foliate cartouche gilt bronze mounted hips tapering to leafy chutes ending as curling tipped acanthus cast sabots, verso underside marque au feu, "J Sargues," and black ink stamped "MADE IN SPAIN," includes one key. Height: 34" Width: 47" Depth: 22"
Condition Report: Good condition with some expected gilding wear and buildup on the bronzes, surface buildup throughout, a few small edge nicks and a small chip on right side lower drawer, normal light scuff marks and scratches from use scattered about, could use a good hand wax polishing. Marble is fine with some normal surface wear and buildup. Frame is sturdy, marquetry is beautifully inlaid and bronzes are nicely cast. Key works from lower drawer locking both.
