A LOUIS XVI GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED MAHOGANY AND ACAJOU MOUCHETÉ BUREAU PLAT, LATE 18TH CENTURY AND LATER

the gilt-bronze-banded top inset with tooled leather writing surface, the shaped and panelled frieze with one central and two side drawers with laurel wreath handles, and panelled with simulated drawers to the reverse, the sides mounted with a stylised patera on four squared tapering fluted supports, capped with acanthus mouldings and terminating gilt-bronze foliate cast feet, stamped front left corner J.H. RIESENER and JME, top probably later and alterations to construction of legs

78cm. high, 130cm. wide, 80cm. deep; 2ft. 6¾in., 4ft. 3¼in., 2ft. 7½in.

Condition Report:
In overall very good conserved condition. Colour overall is less orange slightly darker overall and much more natural and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. There some very minor scattered chips to the veneer generally which are hardly noticeable. The quality of the gilt-bronze mounts and the veneer is very good.
There are some stable shrinkage cracks to the leather top which has been recently polished and has a more orange colour than the photographs. The top is probably later or associated. The legs have had alterations to the inner construction, not noticeable from the outside. One drawer has been grooved in to one side. The gilt-bronze mounts have been recently cleaned - Please note that catalogue images have been done before the cleaning of mounts and polishing of leather top.
