A LURI 'SHIELD-DESIGN' SINGLE BAG (CHANTEH), SOUTH PERSIA, CIRCA 1900
“A yellow shield/medallion device lies on a dark blue ground with small diamonds in each corner. The main border is formed by two-coloured wedges in the same or opposite orientations on a natural ivory ground. The outer border is formed of a sloping band pattern in alternating red and blue. The knotting is symmetrical, warps are in natural ivory wool and wefts in brown wool usually in two shoots. The ends are in kelim folded over and hemmed. There is no closure area and it may be that the bag has been reduced in size. The back is in a beautiful pistachio green colour, in weft-faced plain weave, with bands in yellow, red or blue.” (Benjamin, op.cit., p.119). Approximately 20 x 22cm
