Catalogue Note:
The 1815 Moonphase is a whimsical and romantic addition to the modern A Lange & Söhne suite. Launched in 1999, the model was limited to 250 pieces in pink gold (231.031) and 150 pieces in platinum (231.035) and paid homage to Emil Lange’s 150th birth year. While holding the strong engineered DNA of established Lange models, the 1815 Moonphase offers a more diminutive size and playful dial configuration. Stars make up the indexes 3,6 and 9 to the dial, while the moon phase is playfully hidden amongst the constellation for the big dipper.

Emil Lange was the second son of founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange, and joined the company in 1871 along with his brother Richard Lange. The duo brought the brand to new heights. Emil Lange increased the brand’s pocket watch production size, introduced marine chronometers to their repertoire, and also introduced imported Swiss movements. In 1900, Emil Lange was awarded the cross of the Knight of the French Legion of Honor for his presentation of the ‘Jahrhundert tourbillon’ pocket watch. In 2000, following the launch of the present 1815 model, A Lange & Söhne launched the Lange 1 Tourbillon paying homage to this legendary Jahrhundert tourbillon.
