A Large Icon of the Dormition with Christ.

Russia/Eastern Europe, circa 19th Century. A large painted icon, tempera and gesso on wood panel, depicting the Dormition of the Theotokos on green altar cloth, Christ and the swaddled Soul of the Virgin, and surrounding saints. 18 3/4" x 15" x 1 1/2". Condition: cracks and losses within the imagery at left, craquelure and some yellowing, the halos were possibly once gold, in-painting and staining on the border, dings and losses to the edges, scattered wormholes.
