Ronald Reagan
The White House, Washington, DC, n.d.
A "Lincoln Solferino" Tea Cup and Saucer from the Ronald Reagan White House
A lovely relic from the Family Residence in the Reagan White House, a limited edition "Solferino" purple and white porcelain teacup with saucer, handsomely and authentically reproduced by Haviland & Co. in Limoges, France, after the original Abraham Lincoln Presidential Dinner Service from 1861. The cup measures 4" in diameter x 3" high, while the saucer is 6.33 in diameter. The edges of the saucer are embellished with concentric circle patterns of white with gold and "solferino" purple color, while the cup displays the same, with an escutcheon of the national eagle in a Napoleonic style, olive branch and arrows in its two talons. The underside of the saucer bears the description in script: "Authentic reproduction of the cup and saucer made by Haviland in 1861 which President Abraham Lincoln used at dinner…Limited edition of 2500 of which this is No. 10." Near mint condition. Ex: Christies, "The Private Collection of President and Mrs. Reagan", 2016.

Upon Lincoln's installment in the White House in 1861, Mary Todd Lincoln found the table service in sorry state. Desirous of providing guests with a fashionable and memorable dining experience, she purchased large quantities of the specially designed table service in a shade of purple, Mary's favorite color. This became known as the Lincoln Solferino Service. Mary Todd and her guests used this service so frequently that by the time that she turned the White House over to Andrew Jackson on May 26, 1865, only three partial place settings, some teacups, and some odds and ends were left of the original Solferino set.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
