A Louis XVI Gilt Bronze and Marble Mantel Clock
A Louis XVI Gilt Bronze and Marble Mantel Clock
Denis-Francis Dubois, Paris, Circa 1780
having a large circular movement with original verge escapement; striking the hour on a bell and striking the hour again on a smaller bell on the half hour and repeating the hour on a bell, eight-day duration.
Height 17 1/2 inches.
This lot is located in Palm Beach.
Property from the Estate of Joanna Hoffman, Palm Beach, and Her Father, John Hoffman, Member of the British Antique Dealers’ Association and the Confederation Internationale de Negociants en Oeuvres d’Art. European Furniture & Decorative Arts Movement needs service; starts, but does not keep ticking. With pendulum. Two small bronze elements missing (rush stalks from scrolls on base), one detached, one or two others loose. The marble elements are possibly associated; the bronze "middle" of the clock is clearly of the period, but the marble base and urn finial are atypical of the 18th century.
