Provenance: By repute, the table left France from Chateau de Fortoiseau (used by the Germans for ammunition storage; destroyed in 1944) with the family of Raymond Tartiere, who settled in Middleburg, Virginia. President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy leased the Middleburg home from the Tartiere family from 1960-1962; the table is mentioned as appearing in the President's bedroom in a 1961 inventory of the home.
