A MAMLUK GOLD, SILVER AND COPPER-INLAID BRASS SPOUTED POURING BOWL
PROBABLY SYRIA, SECOND QUARTER 14TH CENTURY
The upper register of the angular body decorated with a band of in chase animals punctuated with three coats of arms with copper inlay, the lower register decorated with pairs of mythical animals, antelopes and lions, within cartouches surrounded by arabesques, the spout decorated on each side with flowers, interlaced floral scrolls around the rim, the interior with a stylised fish pond, the base similarly decorated, traces of inlay remaining
9 5/8in. (24.3cm.) long including spout

Probably Emmanuel Guillaume-Rey (1837-1916), thence by descent until sold circa 1980-1985, thence by descent to previous owner
