A MASSIVE COBALT BLUE DECORATED YELLOW GROUND ‘LOTUS AND EIGHT TREASURES OF BUDDHISM’ PORCELAIN VASE
China, 20th century
Of archaistic hu vessel shape, resting on a tall spread foot, with a globular body flanked by two beast face shaped handles and with a trumpet neck. Adorned in gilt-enhanced underglaze cobalt blue with bands of lotus as well as with “The Eight Treasures of Buddhism” against a yellow ground, with stylised lotus petal to the base of the vase and crashing waves to the foot and to the rim. The below is all covered in light blue and centred by an apocryphal cobalt blue six character seal / zhuanshu mark of Emperor Qianlong. The inner part is also covered in light blue.
