A MASSIVE KUTANI ‘BIJIN’ PORCELAIN FLOOR VASE BY THE WORKSHOP OF TASHIRO MONZAEMON
Japan, Mikawachi kilns, Meiji period
With nice reticulated lion feet shaped handles and a finely painted polychrome decor of bijins (beauties) notably. The base inscribed in red with a mark ‘肥碟山信甫’ (lit. ‘Hichozan Shinpo’), a trademark used by the merchant Tashiro Monzaemon. The base also bears an on site picture of the vase as well as an auction catalog description.
