A MIDNIGHT-BLUE GAUZE WOMAN'S SURCOAT, LONGGUA, 19TH CENTURY

The midnight-blue gauze robe is woven with eight integral dragon roundels displaying five-clawed dragons clutching and chasing flaming pearls against a ground of dense ruyi-form clouds. The hem is decorated with roiling waves and lishui border.

CONDITION REPORT:
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

We have sought to record changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture.
-The robe is faded overall.
-There is an area of staining to the proper left lower quadrant of the robe.
-There are areas of repair to the front of the collar and the mid-night blue ground at the center of the robe.
-There are a few scattered stains throughout the robe.
-There are a few scattered loose threads.
-The robe has later tailoring, particularly to the sleeves.
-The buttons are missing.
-The button loops may be later addition.
