A MONOCHROME APPLE-GREEN GLAZED BOTTLE VASE, CHINA, 18TH CENTURY
A MONOCHROME APPLE-GREEN GLAZED BOTTLE VASE, CHINA, 18TH CENTURY
Expert's note
A number of characteristics strongly support an 18th-century dating for the present vase. Noteworthy is the remarkably successful mineral glaze of a fine and even apple-green tone, suffused throughout with an
exceptionally dense network of fine black crackles—a combination characteristic of some of the finest monochrome wares produced during the early and mid-Qing dynasty. Further indications of an early date are the elegant potting, particularly the resilient foot ring, which displays the smooth, silky ware, as well as the subtly everted lip. Equally significant is the continuation of the glaze to the interior.
The pear-form body supported on a short foot with recessed base and rising to a tall slender neck with everted rim, covered overall with a finely crackled apple-green glaze thinning slightly at the rim.
Provenance: German private collection.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, few firing irregularities including minor pitting and few dark spots, and few light surface scratches.
