A MORADABAD BRASS FLOWER VASE
Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, late 19th century
Standing on a disc foot, the tall stem with a moulded ring in the middle, the inverted drop-shaped body and the double-level neck with a flared mouth rim; the surface incised with a thin and dense foliate pattern.
41.2cm high
Although visually reminiscent of bidri ware, Moradabad work employs a different technique, the yellowish surface being made of a copper alloy, while the silver-coloured or white areas on both sides are tin, and the black decoration was achieved by applying a lac coating.
