With cast-iron head of pine cone form, and tubular socket, on tapering wooden haft of circular section painted dark red and with an iron cap at the base; together with two European woodsman's axes, the first with heavy long triangular blade with convex cutting edge, and integral rectangular socket, on later wooden haft, the second with slightly convex cutting edge drawn-out at the bottom to form a truncated 'beard', flattened rectangular peen, and integral rounded socket, on later wooden haft (old splits) (3)
