A Meissen porcelain plate from the dinner service for Count Heinrich von Podewils
The moulded rim with six scallop shell appliques and painted with the coat of arms of the Podewils family with the Order of the Black Eagle supported by two Prussian eagles above. Decorated throughout with scattered indianische blumen. Blue crossed swords mark, impressed 21, painter's mark P. in gold to the basal ring. Some minor glaze wear. D 43.5 cm.
Circa 1741/42, the model by Johann Joachim Kaendler and Johann Friedrich Eberlein, 1741.
In recognition of his diplomatic services during the first Silesian war, Prussian state minister Count Heinrich von Podewils (1696 - 1760) received an extensive service as a gift from King Augustus III in 1742 whilst acting as envoy in Dresden. The service utilised designs developed in the same year for the hunting service of Prince Elector Clemens August of Bavaria (1700 - 1761).
