Rectangular snuff box with gilt metal mountings. All faces decorated with Watteau scenes en camaieu. The inside of the lid with a finely painted half-length portrait of Maria Josepha, Electoress of Saxony and Queen of Poland. Unmarked. Restored. H 4.3, W 8, D 6.5 cm.
After 1743, miniature after Louis de Silvestre (1675 - 1760).
The portrait miniature reiterates almost exactly a full-length portrait of the Queen painted in 1743 by Louis de Silvestre (1675 - 1760). The French artist became court painter at Dresden in 1716. The portrait is currently housed in the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin.
