A Mid-18th Century Ivory Fan, the monture carved and silvered and gilded in classical style, with urns, birds and flowers. The vellum leaf, painted in pastels, shows a musical gathering in the grounds of a country estate, near the river. Several musicians are seen playing in the centre, the first couple have started to dance, observed by several other couples and a seated dog. One couple, having laid out their picnic, seem more engrossed in each other. The verso, en grisaille, shows a pair of lovers at a quiet rural assignation. Guard length approx. 10.5 inches or 26.5cm.
Condition Report:
. The gilding is still bright but the silvering dull. The fan has been framed and the rear gorge appears soiled perhaps by glue. The fan will not re-fold. The frame is available within the hammer price should the purchaser wish to have it.
