A Moba Shrine Idol Ex Zemanek Auctions, Germany

A Tall Moba Tchitcheri Ancestor shrine sculpture, carved from a hard dense wood, this human effigy has a highly stylized form and very well weathered surface. Tchitcheri are symbols of ancestral spirits and are often placed in the ground around the home and shrines. Moba peoples, Ghana/Togo, West Africa. This figure has been custom mounted and measures 19.25 inches on its base. Provenance: Ex Private German Collection, Ex Zemanek auctions, there is an old auction label on the bottom of the base, offered in 2004 lot 39.
