A NABESHIMA POLYCHROME SAUCER DISH
Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1690-1760
Decorated with flowering mizu-aoi (a species of water hyacinth, monochoria korsakowii) floating over the surface of the dish, in underglaze blue, iron-red, green and yellow enamels, the underside painted in underglaze-blue with three groups of formalised flowerheads and scrolling foliage above a deep foot rim with a typical combed design. 5.6cm x 20cm x 20.5cm (2½in x 7 7/8in x 8in).
